Dear Diary, Today I Wore Something Beautiful

Date: Today
Weather: Good for walking
Mood: Excited, slightly dramatic, ready for compliments

Dear Diary,

Today started like every other very important dog day.

I opened my eyes. I stretched my front paws very far. I yawned like a tiny lion. Then I looked at my human.

My human was still sleeping.

This was confusing because the sun was already awake, the birds were already talking, and I was already ready to begin my duties.

My duties are:

  • Checking every room
  • Making sure breakfast happens
  • Looking cute
  • Following my human everywhere
  • Going outside to smell important things

So I placed one paw on the bed.

Then another paw.

Then I gave my human my best face.

The face that says, “Good morning. I love you. Please wake up. Also, I may be starving.”

Morning: The Wardrobe Opened

After breakfast, something very exciting happened.

My human opened my little wardrobe.

I immediately became serious.

A wardrobe is not a normal place. A wardrobe is where adventure begins.

There were soft things, pretty things, tiny things, and one very special outfit that I had not worn before.

My human picked it up and said, “Do you want to wear this today?”

I sniffed it carefully.

This is how dogs make decisions. Humans look with their eyes. Dogs look with their noses.

Soft? Yes.

Pretty? Yes.

Smells like home? Yes.

Suitable for being admired? Very yes.

So I stood very still, which is not easy for me because my tail was already doing excited little movements.

Getting Dressed

My human helped me put it on slowly.

First one paw.

Then the other paw.

Then a gentle adjustment near my chest.

I waited.

I tested one step.

Then another step.

I could walk.

I could turn around.

I could sit.

I could wag.

Most importantly, I still felt like me.

That is the most important thing about clothes. I want to look special, but I still want to feel like a dog.

The Mirror Moment

Then I saw myself in the mirror.

Diary, I need to be honest.

I looked wonderful.

My ears looked softer than usual.

My eyes looked extra shiny.

My paws looked tiny but powerful.

My outfit made me feel like I had somewhere important to go, even though I did not know where yet.

I turned my head to the left.

Beautiful.

I turned my head to the right.

Also beautiful.

My human smiled and said, “You look so cute.”

I already knew, but I accepted the compliment because I am polite.

Outside: So Many Smells, So Many Feelings

We went outside.

The air smelled like grass, warm pavement, someone’s breakfast, and a dog who had walked there before me.

I had many jobs to do.

  • Sniff the corner
  • Look at a leaf
  • Walk very confidently
  • Stop suddenly for no clear reason
  • Receive compliments

A person walked past us and said, “Oh my goodness, look at you!”

I looked at my human.

My human looked proud.

I looked calm on the outside.

On the inside, I was doing zoomies.

Compliments are like treats, but for the heart.

At the Café

After our walk, we went to a café.

I like cafés because humans sit still, which means I can sit under the table and observe the world.

Also, sometimes crumbs happen.

I sat nicely beside my human.

I watched people walk past.

I watched another dog.

The other dog watched me.

I think they noticed my outfit.

We did not bark. We simply understood each other.

Some dogs chase balls.

Some dogs chase birds.

Today, I chased elegance.

A Small Problem

Diary, I must confess something.

I tried very hard to stay clean.

Truly, I did.

But then I saw a very interesting patch of grass.

It looked normal to humans, but to me it was full of mystery.

I sniffed it.

Then I sniffed it again.

Then I almost rolled on it.

My human said, “No, no, not in your nice outfit.”

I stopped.

I pretended that rolling was never my plan.

I am very convincing.

Afternoon Nap

When we came home, I was tired.

Being fashionable is beautiful, but it is also a lot of work.

I drank some water.

I walked in a circle three times.

I found the perfect sleeping spot.

Then I curled up like a cinnamon roll.

My human took one more photo.

I heard the camera sound.

I did not open my eyes.

Famous dogs need rest.

Evening Thoughts

Now it is evening.

My paws are sleepy.

My belly is full.

My human is nearby.

My outfit is folded nicely after a very successful day.

I think clothes are not just for looking cute, even though I looked extremely cute.

Clothes can make a normal day feel special.

They can make a walk feel like an adventure.

They can make my human smile.

And when my human smiles, my tail wags without asking me first.

Maybe that is what love feels like: a soft outfit, a happy walk, a warm hand, and someone calling your name like you are the best little dog in the world.

Dear Diary, My Final Thought

Today I learned that I do not need a special reason to feel special.

I can be special on a normal morning.

I can be special on a short walk.

I can be special while sitting under a café table waiting for crumbs.

I can be special just because I am loved.

But wearing something beautiful does help.

Especially when it is soft.

Especially when it fits.

Especially when everyone says, “Look at that little dog!”

I will now go to sleep.

Tomorrow I will probably wake my human up again.

Maybe we will go for another walk.

Maybe I will wear another outfit.

Maybe I will find another mysterious patch of grass.

Life is full of possibilities when you have four paws.

Goodnight, Diary.

With sleepy paws and a happy tail,
A very stylish little dog
